Our strategy is to invest in co-generation systems that capture and convert
into electrical power the waste heat and gases from the steelmaking operations
of our sister company, Hamilton Works.
Our objective is to create up to 120 MW of electrical generating capacity by
2010, which will drive reductions in greenhouse gas and other environmental
emissions at Hamilton Works, reduce its reliance on the provincial electricity
grid, and improve its cost-competitiveness.
As our energy business grows, we will pursue new revenue opportunities to sell
electrical capacity back to the provincial grid or potentially transmit it –
via district energy systems – to serve other industrial customers along the
lands of the Hamilton Port Authority.
